The Catholic pilgrimage route to Seoul (1)

The Catholic holy Places in Seoul

There are several Catholic holy places and martyrdom sites in Seoul where I live. And there were also pilgrimage routes to walk along the sacred place.

Catholicism in Korea did not spread through external inflows such as missionaries, but came in the name of Western studies and began at the academic level.

Pilgrimage sites

There are three types of pilgrimage sites that are prescribed by church law.
The parish pilgrimage site approved by the diocese, the national pilgrimage site determined by the approval of the Council of Bishops, and the Holy See.

The Catholic pilgrimage route to Seoul, which was declared an international pilgrimage site approved by the Vatican on September 14, 2018.

You can get more information of the Seoul Pilgrimage Route through Website of archdiocese of Seoul.

1. Myeongdong Cathedral

Trasportation

 – By Subway: Take Seoul Metro Line 4 (Blue Line) and get off at Myeongdong Station (Exit 8). Myeongdong Cathedral is within walking distance from the station.

 – By Bus: You can also reach Myeongdong Cathedral by taking a bus. Various bus routes stop near Myeongdong Cathedral. Please search buses to get there by app.(example: naver map or google map)

 – By Taxi: Taxis are readily available in Seoul. Empty taxis have a red “빈차(empty car)” red light in the center of the front of the car. If you wave toward a passing by taxi with a red mark of empty car, you can stop the empty taxi anywhere. But I don’t recommend this way because you are not familiar Korean road situations. I advise to use taxi application rather than waving hands on the road. You can easily call the taxi at anywhere by Korean famous app.(Kakao T)

* Most Koreans don’t use Uber. If you use Uber in Korea, you can be uncomfortable.

It might be hard to find this site because there is no marker for Myeongryebang. So you have to visit through this site’s address(66, Eulji-ro, Jung-go, Seoul).

There is only the Stone marker of the site of Jangakwon( the Board of Music) nearby the Headquarters of ‘KEB Hana Bank’ now.

It is a pity that there is not a proper sign for an important Catholic historical site.
