There are many Catholic Cathedrals in Seoul. Among them, I would like to introduce a church where English Mass is held

I am a Catholic. Before I travel abroad, I always look for a church that has an English Mass. So today, I would like to introduce Myeong-dong Catholic Church( , which holds English Mass for foreigners traveling to Seoul. Also it is a good tourist destination.

Myeong-dong Cathedral is located in Myeong-dong, the center of tourism. The Cathedral is an indispensable historical site in Korean Catholic history, so you must visit it. Inside the Myeongdong Cathedral, there is a 24-hour confessional(with Korean). And at the candle lighting place at the bottom, you can pray with a candle taken out of the box after you voluntarily pay for a candle.

Hyehwa Cathedral is a church in my neighborhood, and I am proud of this church. So I will introduce it additionally.

Hyehwa Cathedral

  • Location: Hyehwa Cathedral is located in the Hyehwa-dong neighborhood of Jongno-gu in Seoul, South Korea. (Subway Line 4[blue line] ‘Hyehwa’ station)
  • History: Hyehwa Cathedral was founded in 1887 by French missionaries from the Society of Foreign Missions of Paris (MEP). Its establishment is significant as it took place during a period of religious persecution and challenges for Catholics in Korea.
  • Architecture: The cathedral is neo-gothic architectural style, characterized by pointed arches, intricate detailing, and soaring spires. Its design reflects a blend of Western architectural influences with local elements.

Hyehwa Catholic Church has a mass at 9:00 pm on Sunday. So if you do not have time to attend the mass, you can attend the mass even late at 9:00(not English mass).
